{"id":71,"date":"2016-06-29T10:01:55","date_gmt":"2016-06-29T16:01:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elmiraolsonacupuncture.com\/site\/?p=71"},"modified":"2026-02-24T13:58:55","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T19:58:55","slug":"frequently-asked-questions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/elmiraolsonacupuncture.com\/site\/frequently-asked-questions\/","title":{"rendered":"Frequently Asked Questions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Who Should I see for Acupuncture?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You should see\u00a0a registered acupuncturist (R.Ac.)\u00a0 In Alberta, acupuncturists are required to have\u00a0an extensive amount of training in classroom and clinic, along with sucessful completion of the provincial registration exam.\u00a0\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/acupuncturealberta.ca\/\">College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta<\/a> (CAAA) maintains a listing of registered acupuncturists in Alberta.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Does Acupuncture Hurt?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Acupuncture causes little to no discomfort.\u00a0 Many people are surprised how\u00a0comfortable the experience is.\u00a0 I use sterilized\u00a0single use\u00a0needles that are disposed of after every treatment, so there is\u00a0no risk of infection during treatment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I am scared of needles, what should I do?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Come in for a consultation.\u00a0 I can talk you through the whole procedure and address any concerns you may have.\u00a0 Being more familiar with the situation often relieves much of the stress involved. In some cases there can be alternatives to needling, such as auricular acupuncture or acupressure.\u00a0 Needles can be removed at any time during the treatment, so if you are feeling uncomfortable I can quickly change the treatment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What should I do before my treatment?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please eat prior to your treatment.\u00a0 You should avoid food or drink that may change the color of your tongue immediately before you come in.\u00a0 It is also\u00a0a\u00a0good idea to wear loose comfortable clothing for your treatment.\u00a0 I may need access to points on your abdomen or back, as well as on your legs and arms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What happens during my first visit?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your visit will begin with a detailed medical history.\u00a0 It may seem that you are asked questions unrelated to your concern, but since Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on a view of the person as a whole, all of your information is taken together to design a treatment that is specific to you. This maximizes the effectiveness of your treatment.\u00a0 I will also examine your tongue and pulse as a part of your diagnosis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How many treatments will I need?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0This varies from person to person.\u00a0 For acute conditions, often only three or four treatments are needed.\u00a0 For chronic conditions more treatments may be neccessary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How long is a treatment?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Usually your first visit takes\u00a0approximately 60 minutes, with subsequent visits lasting 45 minutes to an hour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How will I feel after\u00a0my treatment?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Everyone responds differently, but often people feel relaxed or drowsy after their treatment.\u00a0 Others feel revitalized and energized.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To Book an Appointment, Please call: 780-395-9170 (Summerside), 780-244-1095 (Westbrook), or 780-757-7377 (Riverbend)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you have a question?
